President Kevin Wang from MIT

One of my greatest high school experiences was working with Professor Carlos Simmerling at Stony Brook University. His research involving protein modeling on supercomputers was at the confluence of biology and computer science, my two greatest interests at the time. Working in a lab was a valuable experience for many reasons. It gave me an insiders look into what doing research was like.

Vice President for College Application — Wenxin Xu from Harvard University

I came to the US from China at the age of 4, and my family now lives in Toronto. I am currently studying Chemical and Physical Biology at Harvard University. My interests lie with the sciences: I was national winner of the Chemical Institute of Canada's 2005 chemistry competition, and I have enjoyed doing research in the medical schools at both Wayne State University and the University of Toronto. I enjoy casual chess, cross-country running, and dabble in contemporary Chinese martial arts. During the school term, I also teach a weekend ESL class for immigrants in Boston.

Vice President for Administration Lily Zhang

Tae Kwon Do is an important part of my life. It teaches me how to find my individuality and how to conquer fear. Learning how to respect others is important, but Tae Kwon Do teaches me how to respect myself first. If one does not know how to treat himself or herself with respect, how can he or she respect others? Tae Kwon Do makes me aggressive in reaching my goals with focus and integrity. At the end of the day, I learned not to cry when I was punished to do fifty knuckle push-ups. This is the sprit of Tae Kwon Do. That is why I am no longer afraid of obstacles ahead of me. This fall, I will be the youngest instructor of the Tae Kwon Do club and the one to pass down this art of life.

Vice President for Theater ArtsLinzi Jiang from Oklahoma

As a representative (Miss China) of Oklahoma Chinese Association, I participated in the contest of 2006 Oklahoma Miss Asia and won the champion of Oklahoma Miss Asia in 5/27/2006. The contest included school academic achievement, question answers and art performance. I am the youngest candidate for this contest. I came to USA at 3 years old and I am not only the honor roll student in my high school, but also a youth leader in the activity of the local Chinese community.

Director of YB Chess Club — Boris Xu from Georgia

I was born in Long Island, New York and now am living in Atlanta, Georgia. I have learned many things and involved many activities including swimming, ice skating, drawing, piano, saxophone, tennis and table tennis. I enjoy reading as well as writing. I like sciences and love traveling and watching movies. My biggest passion is playing chess. In 2003, I began to compete in chess with children of my age and since then have won many state championships and Southern region championships. In 2006, I won the championship of 2006 US Junior Chess Congress (12/under) as well as National Elementary (k-6) School Chess Championship and 2006 National Blitz Championship (K-6).

YB Magazine Correspondent Eddie Guo from Oklahoma

The Erhu is a kind of violin with two strings and a popular instrument in China. We take Erhu class at our Chinese school. Also we have Erhu performance in the activities at local Chinese community. We perform beautiful Night and Horse Race at the celebration of Chinese New Year and China Night organized by Oklahoma Chinese Student Society. I enjoy playing Erhu very much.

YB Magazine Correspondent Cynthia Shi from Ontario, Canada

"Many reasons draw me to ballet. Joy in movement, delight in team-work, a desire to perform, or simply a love of music can make you wish for dancing. It builds self-confidence, good posture and strong muscles. Attending a ballet performance on the stage is very exciting!" --Cynthia, a G4 student in Ontario, who wishes to be a ballerina and a mathematician in the future, is practicing ballet in the studio for the performance held by Young Dancers of Canada.
